Fife

Fife, or the Kingdom of Fife as it's fondly known, is in essence a peninsula bounded to the North by the Firth of Tay, the South by the Firth of Forth and the East by the North Sea. The North and East of Fife is a rural area, where agriculture and tourism are the mainstays. St Andrews and the picturesque "East Neuk" coastal villages of Pittenweem, Elie, Anstruther, Crail and St Monans are particularly popular places for second homes. The RAF base at Leuchars is also based here. The South and West of Fife is very different. Here is where you'll find the main centres of population, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes, and it's a much more industrial area. Increasingly though it's also a popular area for people to commute to Edinburgh via the famous Forth Rail and Road Bridges.
