Edinburgh
Edinburgh of course is the capital of Scotland and one of the most picturesque cities in Europe. In stark contrast to its larger neighbour in the West, Glasgow, it's never been an industrial city and so avoided decline in the 1980's and has prospered off the back of banking, financial services and tourism. The Edinburgh Festival (actually it's several concurrent festivals) takes place every August and is the world's largest Arts Festival.
